And we’re off!!! We’re on the road and ready to explore Two Lane Gems!
It’s hard to believe we’ll be gone for a month. It’s even harder to believe that I’m able to fulfill a nearly lifelong dream. This would never have been possible without the support of my husband and best friend, Jim. When I first asked him if he’d like to drive to San Diego this time for the Travel & Adventure Show, he didn’t hesitate. He didn’t balk. He simply responded with “how long do you think we’ll need? Three weeks? A month?”
So, here we are. in our beautiful Kia Sorento. We’ve named her Mae, after that indomitable free spirit Mae West. We’re on I-55 heading towards St. Louis. This will be one of the rare times we’ll drive an interstate, but it’s also our longest driving day.
Our first destination is Pulaski County, Missouri, located about two hours outside of St. Louis on Route 66. We need to arrive by 4pm, and during our twenty hours in the area we’ll dine at three restaurants, tour two museums, visit a memorial, take two driving tours, and browse downtown Waynesville. Whew! And this is just our first town!
If you want to follow in real time we’re posting on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook (when we can connect!). Learn more about our trip and pre-order Two Lane Gems, Vol. 1! Want to meet Mae? Here she is!
