Four weeks ago today my fiance and I set off on a Grand Adventure. We put everything in storage so we could explore new cities for The Local Tourist, and experience our home base of Chicago with new eyes.
Our trip began with a ten day visit to San Diego and it was a whirlwind tour of southernmost California. We explored by boat, trolley, bicycle, car, and on foot. We brunched in the Gaslamp Quarter, biked on the Silver Strand, swam in the Pacific Ocean, drank margaritas by the pool, ate cookies by the lake. We toured breweries, ate sushi and empanadas from street vendors, strolled Seaport Village, and were awed by our country's military might. We stayed in the comfort of our family's home and in luxurious hotels with views and amenities fit to spoil just about anyone.
It was, to put it mildly, an auspicious start to this very Grand Adventure.
Over the next few days I'll be sharing highlights and photos from our San Diego leg, sure to help you plan your own visit to this beautiful and vibrant city.
We're back in Chicago (for now!) researching for a "Staycation" series. In the next couple of weeks we'll be leaving again, this time heading east to Asheville, North Carolina. If you'd like to see where we are in real time, and where we've been, you can follow #GrandAdventure on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Google+. Cheers, and here's to creating your own Grand Adventure!
