Lake Geneva

Located just 75 miles northwest of Chicago on the other side of the Wisconsin border, Lake Geneva provides a year-round escape from hectic city life and is a short day trip or great weekend destination.

Lake Geneva is the town centered around Geneva Lake. Formed by glaciers, its clear waters are surrounded by historic mansions, marinas and resorts. Spring, Summer & Fall activities include boating, hiking, golf & tennis and horseback rides. Cold weather visitors enjoy skiing, snowmobiling, sleigh rides and ice skating. And of course there are several resorts and spas to choose from all year.

Lake Geneva provides what you'd expect and desire from a resort area: shopping, dining, natural beauty, and activities that offer a welcome respite from the noise and bustle of Chicago. It allows visitors to relax and take a step back to an earlier time. The town capitalizes on its beautiful surroundings and its history by hosting several festivals. These range from a Classic Car show to Antique markets to enjoying the change of seasons.

It has a long history as a destination spot for Chicagoans. Displaced residents after the Chicago Fire made it their home during reconstruction. Hugh Hefner chose the area as the location for his Playboy Club and Resort, which is now the Grand Geneva Resort.

Directions

It's easy to get there - just take I-94 North to WI-50 West. It should only take about an hour and a half from the heart of Chicago, depending on traffic. Obviously you want to avoid rush hour. That can add another hour to your trip!
