October is National Dessert Month and we can’t think of a better place to indulge than Benny’s Chop House (444 N. Wabash Avenue, Chicago; 312-626-2444). You may not think of a “steakhouse” as being the place to head for great desserts. Think again. Benny’s pastry chef Aaron Lindgren is an alumnus of Charlie Trotter’s and his desserts are at the top of Chicago’s best. Chocolate lovers won’t be disappointed. The Chocolate Pudding Cake ($9.99) with caramel crunch and toffee ice cream is worth the calories; it’s simply amazing.

When the Chicago Shakespeare Theater put together the artistic game plan for its soon-to-open production of the Sondheim and Lapine musical “Sunday in the Park with George,” CST’s creative agency, Leo Burnett/Arc Worldwide, placed a call to Chicago-based digital retouching artist Michael Lande.

The mission was intriguing: To create a unique, life-sized rendering of Georges Seurat’s famous “Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte” painting. This is one of the Art Institute of Chicago’s most prized and beloved masterpieces.

October, 2012 is John Van Bergen Month in Highland Park.  The City’s Historic Preservation Commission and the Historical Society have teamed up for a series of events highlighting the career of the brilliant and underappreciated Prairie Style architect, John Van Bergen.  House tours, exhibits, and lectures are among the planned activities.
