Save Save Save!!!
21 July 2007 Send To a FriendSo I’m writing about Old St. Pat’s yesterday. I spent a few hours researching, and then putting in words the historic spot’s story. I’m putting on the finishing touches, tightening up phrases here and there, typing out the closing paragraph when…
the power goes out.
Had I saved? Nooooo. Even though I spend most of my waking hours at the computer and have several times experienced that gut-crashing moment when the mouse suddenly freezes into a permanent hourglass and have lost many, many times over the years countless hours of work and I KNOW I need to save often, I didn’t do it. I was almost done and nothing had happened so I was safe, right. Uh-uh.
Apparently there was “public damage” to some ComEd equipment (the guy at ComEd didn’t know any more than that) and a few blocks in my neighborhood were out for 31 minutes. On a positive note, kudos to the fire department. They were rescuing people from the elevator in my building within 5 minutes.
If only they could have rescued my work.
I will be rewriting the story, tomorrow. Today I’m off to work the gates at the Sheffield Garden Walk (volunteering - maybe I’ll get some karma points). If you’re at Sheffield & Webster between noon and 2, stop by and say hello.
Or maybe you should say “Save. Save. Save.”

I work in the Loop, and The Local Tourist is full of information about events that cover all my areas of interest: dining, music, dancing. I love to share it with my friends and see if there’s something we can enjoy together. Now I don’t have any excuse to say I’m bored or there’s nothing to do. Thanks Theresa and The Local Tourist!"
