Looking@Democracy Offers You A Digital Media Challenge
Do you have a great idea as to how we can have a more bipartisan government or maybe any idea as to how we as a country can work together to strengthen our democracy? Looking@Democracy, a project of the Illinois Humanities Council, with support from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, is offering $100,000 in prize money for your ideas in the form of short, provocative media submissions. I know that there are some who are using media to help get their name out there for the purpose of some sort of ‘stardom’, whatever that means as online media advances. And there are others who want to use their creativity to change our society for the better, with a specific purpose of aiming to maintaining the essence of what our democracy stands for and, if possible, open the eyes of those who can contribute to making it a better and fair system.
If you have a short film, animation, music video, maybe graphic art or even a web or mobile app, any type of digital media that can be shared electronically, you should enter; independent media makers, investigative reporters, students, graphic designers, artists, anyone with an creative idea to refresh and maybe renew our conversation in our democracy arena.
There are different level of prizes and though submitting entries began early this month (February 5th) you have until 3pm Eastern Time on April 30th, 2013, using the application form on the site, to submit yours.
“Submissions may consist of a short (generally three minutes or less), creative media piece (video, audio, graphic, animation, photo, data visualization, social media or mobile game)“
Be sure to let us know if you do submit and how far you go. We at The Local Tourist are always aiming to support our local artists and innovators.
