Anime and manga fans and anyone who’s ever been curious about anime and manga, this is for you. Anime is a Japanese genre of film, television, often having a science fiction theme but believe me there are plenty of other themes on the market as well. The genre itself can have a rating system that range from rated G to rated X and if anime is new to you, you should know that there is a large international following that is only getting bigger as each year pass. Manga is basically the same but it usually relates to comic books, cartoons, graphic novels.
One good way to help get you started into anime is to attend Anime Central 2013 (ACen). It’s the largest anime and manga convention in Chicago and the Midwest and it’s being held in Rosemont, IL at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare and the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. It’s a way for fans to get to meet the artist from Japan and the US, catch up on their favorite works and to discover new work on the horizon. You can also get a taste of the Japanese popular culture and how it’s incorporated in the artist’s works. There will be a huge exhibit hall, video game room, concerts, panels and workshops, screenings, autograph sessions, 24-hour video rooms, tabletop gaming, dances and more.
I myself love anime and manga and have a few favorites of my own. I’ll save that discussion for another article in the near future. If you want to get some insight on the genre don’t be afraid to ask you local comic book shop, they may be able to suggest a book or film to get you started or even recommend someone who can. If you do leave a comment below and let me know what you think and if you’ve found a favorite.
