“Dozin’ With The Dinos”

25 January 2007 Send To a Friend

Next time your child asks to sleep over at a friend’s, you might have to ask whether this friend is from an extinct species.

The Field Museum has taken inspiration from the movie ”Night At The Museum” and is inviting children 6 to 12 to sleep among the mummies, the mastadons, and the Mayans. I have to wonder if some of the activities won’t be a little frightening for the faint of heart. They’ll be checking out Egypt by flashlight - there’s a real mummy in there, for heaven’s sake! And they talk about removing dead people’s organs and placing them in little jars.

Then there’re the Man-Eating Lions of Tsavo. These two ate over 140 people in the late 1800s, and the creatures at the Field are wearing their actual skin. That’s kinda creepy even for me as a grown-up, let alone at night without the normal crowds.

Well, I’m sure the museum does a good job of keeping the scary factor low. They’ve been entertaining children and families for decades and know what they’re doing. Honestly, I wish my son were a year younger so I could take him.
