Shakespeare in the Woods - American Players Theatre Sounds a Summer Treat

S. Mikayla Brown's picture

Every year from June to October the village of Spring Green, Wisconsin is transformed as thousands flock to American Players Theatre to catch some Shakespeare and other classic plays under the stars. Two theaters house a repertoire of plays, which this year includes King Henry V, A Winter's Tale, and A Long Day's Journey Into Night. One of the theaters is open to the air in a naturally acoustical bowl surrounded by trees. APT is pretty much to theatre what Ravinia is to music, along with the picknicking and the stargazing. A friend of mine shared that the first time she ever saw Shakespeare as a child was under the stars at American Players Theatre, and it was "magical" to her, instilling a love of Shakespeare that remains. "Besides," she adds, "the actors know what they are saying, and therefore, you understand what's going on." That always helps!

Spring Green is only 3 hours away from Chicago, and sounds like a must do to fill out the precious remaining warm days our Chicago flesh is heir to.
