Tonight: Art You Can Laugh At
It’s free, it’s tonight at 7pm.
Like comedy? Duh, of course you like to laugh. Everyone enjoys levity.
Every two weeks there’s a free comedy stand-up show at ORNOT Gallery just off Ready Coffee in Wicker Park. Get it, Ready (Coffee) ORNOT (Gallery)?
Having been to one of the free comedy shows at ORNOT Gallery I can assure quality. This is not an open mic where anyone who has the nerve says a few words; everyone who performs is truly funny in this curated show.
The host Nathyn Gibson is adorable in a tall, gawky, dorky, self-deprecating way that is easily relatable. The comedians are truly funny; I think I’m a tough audience but I still couldn’t help myself from laughing without holding back.
And the art is … artistic. ORONT Gallery is a showcase for local, contemporary artists. You may not like what you see, but what you’ll see will generate emotion. That’s what art is about.
Ready Coffee features – along with coffee – art. The art isn’t limited to the gallery, oh no. Ready Coffee has an Art-o-Mat, an art cigarette machine. To us lay folk, that means Ready Coffee has fitted a classic cigarette machine to push out artwork … that happens to be placed in cigarette boxes. The best part: this art work is only $5, so much less than a box of cigarettes, and there have been no studies that have found a correlation between art and cancer.
Art You Like to Laugh At, bi-weekly at ORNOT Gallery in Wicker Park. I’l be there.
