HEADLINE: First Band Announced for ChicagoROX
Escape From Earth has been selected as the first band on ChicagoROX. Beginning July 31, this new feature of the downtown Chicago website TheLocalTourist.com will highlight a different Chicago band for an entire week. Visitors to TheLocalTourist.com can listen to a band’s song and vote on whether to “keep it or chuck itâ€. After four weeks, one will be chosen to continue on to the annual contest.
Theresa Carter, founder of TheLocalTourist.com conceived ChicagoROX to help promote local bands and to help her site visitors choose which acts to see.
“A few weeks ago I was listening to this fantastic band in a little dive bar,†says Ms. Carter, “and I couldn’t believe there were only eleven other people – including the bartender!†That was when she had the idea to profile a different local band on her website for an entire week. She wants to provide publicity for the little-known, unsigned acts that perform for the sheer love of their music, and the possibility of being the next “Fall Out Boy†or “Disturbedâ€.
Escape From Earth fits into the concept perfectly. They’re known on MySpace as the band that “comments you back.†Early this year they created Cupcake Records. Lead singer Chris Sernel said “We maintain 100% control. We do it ourselves and bring the music to our friends and fans directly!”
Scott Dalheim, lead guitar, said “We love to put on a positive, fun, entertaining show so everyone can walk away with a smile on their faces.† Their debut on the site coincides with their upcoming performance August 11 at the River East Art Center, and Mr. Dalheim said they’re honored to be represented by TheLocalTourist.com.
Ms. Carter explained why she thought this addition would fit in with the rest of TheLocalTourist.com. “Thousands of people visit the site every day, and they’re all looking for something to do. I try to point out the activities that make tourists feel like locals, and locals feel like tourists, so Chicago ROX is a natural extension. Even as a local I had no idea where to start when it came to picking a band to see, besides word of mouth. This is word of mouth taken a bit farther.â€
Even though ChicagoROX has received several submissions, Ms. Carter invites all local bands to send their music by visiting http://www.thelocaltourist.com/chicagorox and following the instructions.
