The days are getting longer, and the weather much better- Summer in Chicago is finally here! Memorial Day weekend is less than a week away, and the great traditions of camping, picnicing, and listening to music with your toes in the grass can finally commence after months of needing boots and sweaters. Only a few hours drive from Chicago in Chillicothe, IL, is Summer Camp Music Festival which is a melting pot of national and local acts. Many genres are covered: rock, bluegrass, hip hop, electronic, americana, funk, jazz, and jam are only some examples encompassed in the 3 (4 if you attend the pre party) day festival. TLT has provided coverage for the last two years and this year is no exception! Look for live tweets of pictures, artist inteviews, photo gallery, and a festival recap. Of course, it's not too late to join us onsite either! Tickets are still available here: http://summercampfestival.com/tickets/.
Some local acts include Chicago Farmer, JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, Van Ghost (personal favorite!), This Must Be The Band, Jaik Willis, Greensky Bluegrass, Sexfist, Future Rock, Common, and more! We certainly have a lot of talent around here for being known as 'The Second City'. Of course, festy alums Umphrey's McGee and moe. will be playing multiple sets over the long weekend as well. National acts Pretty Lights, Jane's Addiction, Gov't Mule, Primus, Galactic, and tons of others have me excited to tie on the dancing shoes for the first time since Chicago Blues and Bluegrass. Other activities include Field Day, which is a color war between 4 groups of fans and entails fun competitions like pizza eating, dodge ball and tug o war. There is also a non profit area, free workshops on yoga and hooping, burlesque dancing, and think tank talks.
Festivities start on Thursday at 2pm with a pre party and the festival itself starts on Friday at noon. Onsite tent, family, and RV camping are available. TLT will be getting in on Wednesday evening and staying until Monday morning. We have several interviews set up and hope to share some artist insight with all of you. I'm looking forward to kicking off festival season- Cheers!
Happy Memorial Day!
