I'm honored to present this event to you because i have friends who are women living with HIV and I'd like you to know that Chicago is making so many strides in assisting these women and it's showing because there are less infected babies, we are able to assist with the latest drugs and technology, and we have the best volunteers and a committed community. I hope you can come to this lovely evening at one of my favorite rooftops, Vertigo Sky Lounge.
Founded in 1999, HOPE was created to exclusively support the Women’s Program of the HIV Center at Northwestern Memorial. Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s HIV clinic treats approximately 2,000 infected patients each year, 500 of them being women. In 1991 Doctors Patricia Garcia and Michelle Till developed the Women’s Program of the HIV Clinic to address the needs of this population, specifically drug dosages, social and economic support, and pregnancy.
“HIV infected women are living longer with the promise of an improved quality of life. New medications are more effective and have fewer side effects. The incidence of HIV infected babies has decreased dramatically.”
