Top 5 Reasons Eric & Kathy's Halloween Fright Night ROCKED
If you listen to Eric & Kathy's morning show on 101.9 The Mix, you might think "I bet they throw a great party." If you do think that, you'd be right.
Friday I was invited to their Halloween Fright Night at the Fairmont Chicago Hotel. It was the second party of theirs I've been fortunate enough to attend, the first one being their "Second Homecoming" with the Goo Goo Dolls last October, so I knew it was going to be a great party!
Here are my Top 5 Reasons Halloween Fright Night ROCKED:
#5: The Location
The Fairmont Chicago's ballroom is a great place for a party. They've got gorgeous chandeliers and staff that is spot-on. They're quick and friendly, heavy on the drinks and plentiful with the hors d'oeuvres.
#4: The Prizes
Everyone who attended was given the opportunity to win this:

Eric pulled names and three contestants threw giant fuzzy dice with the Mercedes Benz logo on one side. If it landed logo-side-up three times in a row the car was theirs! Unfortunately none of them drove away, but everyone had fun cheering them on. My question: how'd they get the car in the ballroom?

They also gave away cash prizes! There was a $1,000 dollar prize for the best couple, and another for the sexiest costume. Which brings me to my next reason for loving this party...
#3: The Winner
How many "Sexy Costume" contests and entrants and winners have you seen? I bet none of them looked like this:

I don't know about you, but I think the whole Sexy Nurse or Cop or French Maid or Cat Woman etc etc contest winner is old and tired. THIS winner deserved that prize! Sexy is and sexy does, and you, sir, are hot.
#2 The Music
Music may not make the party, but it's a HUGE part of what makes one great. When the party is thrown by a radio station, they better get it right. The MIX did. Not only did they have a great DJ, they also had performances by American Idol winner Phillip Phillps and by Gavin DeGraw. The crowd (unlike many club parties) was small enough that everyone could see and we all had room to breathe.

And what's the #1 Reason this party ROCKED?
#1: The PEOPLE!
More than the music or the food or the location, the people make the party. Because of my friendship with Cara Carriveau, WTMX's mid-day personality, I've gotten to know the people of The MIX. Every one of them is someone with whom I'd want to, and many I have, share a drink and a laugh. As we looked around the room at Gladiators and Bad Santa and the couple who came as "Deer In Headlights", that feeling extended to the people in the ballroom. The costumes were fun and creative, and the feeling, the "vibe" if you will, was relaxed and light hearted.
This party was a blast, and I haven't even mentioned the Thriller flash dance, or the Robert Palmer girls, or the dance floor going Gangnam Style, or Beetlejuice and the headless bride...
