Taste of TLT - July 14, 2011

Vive la France! Or, as they say in Bridgeport, Viva Maria! It's Bastille Day, and Maria's Packaged Goods and Community Bar is celebrating with a screening of "Jazz in Paris Remixed", followed by a groove merchant musique set by DJ Jacques Bryl, and they'll have specialty drinks named the Situationist and the Existentialist.

Another way to celebrate the day the French stormed the Bastille, visit the Chicago French Market. Located on the north side of Ogilvie Station, vendors at this European-style market will be offering specials like Bleu, Blanc & Rouge cupcakes, French beer and creme brulee.

Run or walk all of that richness off at the Bastille Day 5k Run and Walk. This year's the 30th Anniversary for the popular event which now makes its home in Lincoln Park. Since you'll probably work up another appetite the race finishes with a block party for participants that includes food and refreshments.

Now here's a fun way to be a Local Tourist. Go to a concert on Navy Pier, Chicago's most popular tourist attraction, at Harry Caray's, one of our favorite locals. Hit band Parachute will be performing for free, and the event's hosted by The Mix's Eric & Kathy. They're even offering parking at Navy Pier for $10 while supplies last. If you can't make it to this show, catch Parachute at Northerly Pavilion this weekend with the Goo Goo Dolls and Michelle Branch.

Have a great day!
