Taste of TLT - February 24, 25 & 26, 2012
Ahoy, mateys! Saturday is the Chicago Maritime Festival. The Chicago History Museum is hosting this ode to the sea. There will be seminars, including one about shipwrecks in Chicago, and there's an evening concert.
A little bird told me that the Chicago Jazz Ensemble will be at Harris Theater tonight. They'll be performing "Ornithology: the Music of Charlie "Bird" Parker", featuring Grammy-nominated Puerto Rican saxophonist Miguel Zenón. Tickets begin at just $18, and if you've been to the Harris you know there's not a bad seat in the house.
It's the last Friday in February, and that means those crazy cyclists from Critical Mass are going to be taking over the streets. The monthly bike ride begins at Daley Plaza and the route changes every month, although with this weather they might end up where they started. If you'd like to join them, just show up with your bike!
Do you love chocolate? I mean really love chocolate? You can help support tomorrow's wizards with the cocoa bean at the French Pastry School's For The Love Of Chocolate Scholarship Foundation Annual Gala. This year the Merchandise Mart is turned into a "Venetian Cocoa Carnival", with gondoliers, masks, and costumes, and all the chocolate you can eat.
If you love movies you know that the Academy Awards are Sunday night. People Lounge is throwing its own red carpet event to celebrate the Oscars. They'll have a red carpet outside and another one inside, and champagne for $3. The event is free, and if you arrive early you can get $5 tapas between 5 and 7pm.
Music: The fun intro and outro music is from 56 Hope Road
Voice: Theresa Carter opens and closes the podcast, and Jim Goodrich tells you where to go With A Voice Like This
