Free Days at Chicago Museums in January

It's the beginning of a new year! If checking out Chicago's museums is on your list of things do this year then this is the month to do it. Chicago's top museums offer free days during the month of January. There's no charge for general admission so you only have to pay for any special exhibits.

Most of the museums are free for Illinois residents only, so be sure to bring your license or state ID!

Adler Planetarium:

Art Institute of Chicago:

  • January: Weekdays January 7 - January 31

Chicago History Museum:

  • January 21

DuSable Museum of African American History:

  • Neighborhood: Hyde Park
  • Free on Sundays

Field Museum of Natural History:

  • Neighborhood: Grant Park / Museum Campus
  • January 7, 8, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 28, 30

Museum of Contemporary Art:

  • Neighborhood: Magnificent Mile / Streeterville
  • Free on Tuesdays

Museum of Science & Industry:

  • Neighborhood: Hyde Park
  • January 7 - 11, 14 - 18, 21 - 25, 28 - 31

Shedd Aquarium:

  • Neighborhood: Grant Park / Museum Campus
  • January 7, 8, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 28, 29
