Eric & Kathy's Second Chance Was First Rate
Despite the fact that I was a band geek (or maybe because of?) I had a great time at my homecoming dances in high school. Eric & Kathy of 101.9 The Mix know that not everyone had a similar experience, so they offered them a "second chance".
This last weekend was Eric & Kathy's 2nd Chance Homecoming, and I tell you, it was a blast! The mood was perfect. Everyone was dolled up, including the guy wearing the powder blue suit with the ruffled dickey, and ready to get their pictures taken before entering the ballroom. A DJ, also in ruffles, played hits from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. Servers passed around hors d'oeuvres like beef wellington and spanakopita and the crowd steered away from the dance floor until those drink tickets kicked in (no punchbowl at this Homecoming dance). A giraffe, a banana, and a beaver made their way through the revelers in the hopes of being chosen as the mascot for the evening, and king and queen wannabe's wore their Homecoming Court sashes with pride.
The crowd chose the Top Hatted Beaver as the mascot (like there was any question). And the Homecoming Queen? The band geek.
The party would have been great fun with just that, but we all knew it was just build-up for the band. The Goo Goo Dolls took the stage and took over the ballroom with their energy and the songs that everyone knew.
It was a fantastic party! Kudos to everyone at The Mix for organizing such a great event and to the staff at the Fairmont for their incredible service. Every time we turned around someone was offering us a bite to eat or cleaning up an empty glass. And huge thanks to the Goo Goo Dolls for making this Homecoming one we will all remember!
