A Dream Unfolds: Celebrate Martin Luther King Day
The Chicago Sinfonietta is one of the must culturally diverse classical music companies in the U.S. It's also one of the best, and its members pull on both their classical training as well as strong African American ties to gospel. Their annual Martin Luther King, Jr. tribute concert is an emotional and exuberant experience that entertains, educates, and illuminates.
This year the orchestra will be led by Music Director Paul Freeman and guest conductor Kazem Abdullah (pictured). It will also feature special guests Gwendolyn Brown (Contralto), Jonita Lattimore (Soprano), Richard Drews (Tenor), Bruce Hall (Baritone) and Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre (dancers).
The program will include Gabriel Fauré’s serene and elegant Pavane Opus 50; Four Negro Spirituals arrange by Hale Smith; and Beethoven’s majestic 9th Symphony, with its celebratory Ode to Joy.
