The Bears Game Abroad
Sunday’s Bears game was undoubtedly special. Beyond the much needed win, Chicago had a chance to send Forte, Urlacher and the rest of the team over the Atlantic to the surprisingly sunny London.
I’ll leave the post-game commentary to the football pundits but as an expat living in London, I can verify that ‘The Square Mile’ played host to a massive number of Second City citizens.
The sudden influx of blue and orange started Friday morning with the arrival of the team and, based on the number of Bears’ jersey around London, what I could only imagine to be United’s fleet of international planes filled with fans. From the historic Trafalgar Square and the flavorful Fullers Brewery to the fashionable Bond Street, navy and orange we almost everywhere.
As the team took the international spotlight, it was great telling people the Chicago is my second home, because the group visiting was a classy bunch. In the busy parts of town, they avoided many of the annoying tourist habits we see on Michigan Ave and most importantly they were respectful of the city.
As a Packers fan, I tip my hat to the Cutler and the fans. Thanks for bringing a piece of Chicago to this part of the world.
Cheers.
