Before having kids, I thought Chicago's famous summer street festivals were all about drinking beer and listening to cover bands (Sixteen Candles and Headbangers Ball are my two favs)! Turns out, there’s a whole other side to street festivals happening during the day. As our city becomes more and more family-friendly, so do the street festivals.
From carnivals and petting zoos to live music and waterslides, you’ll be amazed at the family entertainment offered. In fact, most of Chicago's larger festivals have entire areas and stages dedicated to the under twelve crowd.
Here are a few of the upcoming street festivals where the entire family is sure to have a blast!
This year’s BenFest Kids Block includes a petting zoo, EuroBungy, awesome waterslides (wear your swimsuits and bring your towels), bounce house, arts & crafts, games galore, balloon twisting, face painting and tot area. Plus, enjoy performances by Mr. Singer and Justin Roberts.
The Sheffield Garden Walk’s Kids Corner not only has tons of entertainment (story time with Chicago Public Library and sing-alongs with Bubbles Academy), but they boast a mini carnival. Kids can ride the piggy train, jump in the moon bounce, take a spin on the kiddie ferris wheel, feed the sheep in the petting zoo and even ride a pony.
You and your family will enjoy great music and dance performances. Plus, a dedicated kids area with arts and crafts, live performances from Chicago Kindie musicians and much more.
Go with your kids during the day to Kidzapalooza, then drop the kids back home with a sitter and come back and enjoy the adult festivities in the evening. Kidzapalooza is famous for its rock and roll vibe. Your kids can get punk rock makeovers, temporary tattoos, participate in hands-on music workshops and rock out with some great kindie bands.

Wrigleyville SUmmerFest's Kid's Zone features a wide range of interactive activities for children including face painting, inflatable obstacle course, giant slide, mini coaster and a variety of fun crafts and games!
You can barely walk down Roscoe without tripping over a stroller, so it's no wonder their popular Retro on Roscoe festival has a great kids section. From rides and inflatables to crafts and live music, they pack a ton of great entertainment into two days.
