If you are looking for a great place to cool off, Pulaski Park is the perfect place to go. Since the beginning of summer I had been hearing a lot of buzz about Pulaski's water playground, and decided to grab a couple friends and head over to check it out.
The buzz was warranted. The water playground is AWESOME! The pool and water playground are both closed to the public during the week until 1pm, so we decided to start our adventure with a picnic in the large grassy area outside the pool just before it opened.
When the doors opened, we were first in line! Pulaski Park features has an awesome separate water playground/kiddie pool perfect for kids 2-7ish. It is basically a one-foot to two-foot deep pool with a water slide, tire swing and all kinds of water features and sprinklers.
We got there when it opened, and had about twenty minutes by ourselves, which was glorious. The kiddie pool area did get a bit crowded as the afternoon went on, but never so crowded that we weren't having fun. The kids had a BLAST swimming, splashing and sliding down the waterslide. They even have a lifeguard on duty in this area, which was great since we all had multiple kids with us.
After about an hour at the water playground, we headed over to the actual pool. The pool is a huge rectangle, and was not very crowded on the day we were there. The shallow end is only 3' (perfect for preschoolers) and quite large. Our kids spent another two hours jumping off the side and swimming around.
The locker rooms are also quite large and feature showers, changing rooms and bathrooms. Although they have lots of amenities, the bathrooms leave a bit to be desired with regards to cleanliness. Lets just say, don't forget your flip-flops!
All and all we had a great time at Pulaski Pool, and will defintely be going back. My posse and I have decided to go on a little pool/water playground tour of Chicago Park District Parks. Next up is Portage Park. What's your favorite place too cool off? I'd love to add it to our list of places to explore!
