The feature photo is the proof-of-concept for my more comprehensive #ChicagoLandmarks photo-mosaic project. I created this particular mosaic for GNP Realty Partners using the photos I took during their re-construction projects. This particular mosaic is made up of 5,000 tiles. However, there were only 900 unique files so there are repeats. Something I'm trying to avoid in my next venture. I expect the #ChicagoLandmarks mosaic to blow this one out of the water!
Ever since I picked up a camera, Chicago has been one of my faovrite subjects to photograph. But it wasn't until this spring of 2011 that I wanted to do something special with all the photos I was gathering. Having messed around with photomosaics before, I decided I would give it a try with the photos I was gathering of Chicago.
As it stands, the plan is to capture 5,000-7,000 unique photos to assemble into one giant image of our city. Can you say overwhelming? As of January 14, 2012 I have approximatley 1,500 photos, so I still have a long way to go. In the end, I hope to get this final piece printed out at around five (5) feet high by seven (7) feet wide - and displayed publicly. From far, one will only see one big image. Up close, each and every photo will be clear and highly-detailed.
So, in my little slice of The Local Tourits, I'm going to post informational spotlights on iconic Chicago buildings and landmarks featuring the photos I take via links to photo-sets from of my outings, feature images, photo-sets, and personal accounts of interesting finds I may come across as I try to photo-document the city in it's entirety. And all of the photos I post will end up somewhere in the final mosaic.
Check back often as I update this page with links to the latest #ChicagoLandmarks posts:
