Chicago ROX (47)

This week's band: Stellar Road

Stellar Road's already had some great success. They've played the big Chicago venues, including the biggest: two years ago they opened for Bon Jovi in Soldier Field. At a recent show in front of Park Grill their fans crowded the fence above and about the restaurant, sang along, and shouted out requests. Fortunately for us this popular acoustic jam band plays frequently. They've got several upcoming dates in the Chicagoland area in the next few weeks and will be at Joe's on Weed on August 15.

This week's band: The Heaven Seventies

The Heaven Seventies are unabashedly mixed and engineered and tweaked. They're electronic and poppy and top-40. They're fun.

This week's band: Honeyglass

I've been wanting to feature Honeyglass since I first heard them back in October. CJ's voice is compelling in a way that's reminiscent of Amy Lee from Evanescence and the band not only accompanies her but complements and enhances.

From the band: "Honeyglass is a new name for a seasoned Chicago band.

This week's band: Heavy The Fall

With a name like "Heavy The Fall" you'd expect a hard rocking sound, and that's exactly what you'll get. So hard, in fact, the drummer from Anthrax wanted to be a part of it. Not only did Charlie Benante produce their last EP, he played on all five tracks. Their own drummer, Jason Delismon, is no slouch and was recognized with a sponsorship by Vic Firth.

This week's band: The Real Jane Martin

From the band: "The Real Jane Martin is an acoustic rock duo from Chicago, IL.

Musician-songwriters Mark Burns and Allen Rein, friends since their days together at Actors Theatre of Louisville, formed TRJM in 2006.

Allen tends to overthink things. Mark is allergic to gluten, which means no pancakes.

This week's band: Anna Vogelzang

Lately I've been inundated with hard, heavy, ear-splitting rock. Over the last few weeks Chicago Metal Factory, Taste of Chaos, SOiL, Bobaflex and The Autumn Offering have given me neck aches from all the head-banging I've been doing. While I do love that genre, sometimes it's good to slow down a bit.

Anna Vogelzang is part of the singer/songwriter "family" in Chicago.

This week's band: Phil Circle

From the band: "Singer/songwriter/guitarist Phil Circle is not your ordinary songster picking away quietly on his acoustic guitar in the same old folksy idiom as so many others of this genre. Phil manages to blend elements of jazz, blues, alternative, and even classical, to seamlessly create a style truly his own.
